Sony Ericsson also launched another smartphone based on Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 OS called the ‘Xperia active’ at the recent press event. Targeted at a sporty lifestyle, it sports a 5MP camera with a LED flash. It’s water and dust resistant but still allows for changeable covers. Internally it’s based on an 1GHz Snapdragon processor and has a 3″ capacitative touch screen which supports wet finger tracking as well.
There are also some specific UI add-ons to the Android OS like the four corner home screen to allow quick access to commonly used apps. Also it has supports for the ANT+ Bluetooth standard to be able to connect to various fitness devices and sensors.
Sony Ericsson Xperia™ active will be available globally in selected markets from Q3 2011. More on the Sony Ericsson press website.
