Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 First Look

Apart from the Galaxy S II, Samsung also showed off the Galaxy Tab 10.1. This tablet is the first Android Honeycomb Tablet we’ve had our hands on, and given Motorola’s speed at getting their devices into Asia, we suspect Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 (rather than the Motorola Xoom) might be the first Honeycomb tablet to go on sale in Singapore, whenever that is, of course (no announcement on price or availability apart from “Q2, 2011”).

  • “….and given Motorola’s speed at getting their devices into Asia…” isn’t it supposed to be Samsung?

    • Well, the Motorola Xoom is actually the first Honeycomb tablet to be on sale, except that it’s not selling in Singapore. So what I meant is that Motorola usually takes quite a while to bring in their devices into Asia, so even though Samsung’s tablet isn’t out yet, they might probably be on Singapore shelves faster than Motorola, making them possibly Singapore’s first Honeycomb tablet.

    • Nevertheless, I’ve changed the wording to make that more obvious. Thanks for the feedback!

There was a recent spate of virus nd trojans for android based apps, and where google has taken off many of these apps… the implications hve not been measured.. meaning the apps for the andoid based OS using the open source code is very prone to viruss and trojans which has happened.

Besides the scren size is relatively smll compare to the iPad.. any comparison on why you think ths is better then the iPad2?

    • The screen size is actually larger than the iPad’s. The iPad’s display is 9.7″, while this one is 10.1″, mainly because the Galaxy Tab’s display is wide, while the iPad’s isn’t.

It’s hard to say if it’s better than the iPad 2, partly because this device isn’t out, and when we played with it, it wasn’t done yet (certain functions weren’t working because the device was still a prototype).

Hopefully someone comes up with a compiler/ code editor on Android to take advantage of the tablets. 🙂

  • Great cover on the Tab10 Daniel, one thing I’m interested to know more about is it’s memory. Aside from it’s built in xGb of memory, does the Tab10 allow external memory like thumb drive or external hard disks through it’s data port? That’ll be a great selling point imho. Cheers!
