65Bits #170: Google Google Posted on: May 30, 2010 at 1:59 pm Posted in: 65Bits,Podcasts

The crew traveled all the way to the corner of Singapore to Daniel’s home for another round of discussion about the Tech world. This week (or rather last week), we discussed about the confusing WebM and VP8. Google is doing a market place web apps which might change the way you buy web applications. The much awaited Android 2.2 is coming soon. Google wants to be on your TV too. And the not so big issue about Google Street View collecting WIFI data.

Apologies for this super duper whopper late posting. The hamster found a new job and his modem just passed away.

Creative Wireless Speakers First Look Posted on: May 21, 2010 at 3:07 pm Posted in: First Looks,VideoCasts

Creative announced a bunch of bluetooth speakers a few days ago and we were there to see them. This was Creative’s attempt to build platform independent speakers, after noticing that most companies have been focusing on purely iPod/iPhone dockable speakers. These speakers also support the apt-X codec that helps reduce loss of music quality and lag when connecting via bluetooth.

65Bits #169: HTC Strikes Back Posted on: May 18, 2010 at 10:36 pm Posted in: 65Bits,Podcasts

The Tech65 crew decided to push themselves to the limit by doing 65bits recording at midnight, right after attending 3 events back to back. This week, we discuss about the smartphone market share. No surprised that both Apple and Android are gaining market share. But Android is gaining more market share compared to Apple. This isn’t surprising since most people are holding back for the next iPhone which was seen dropping at pubs over the world. (ok, maybe just US and Vietnam) Steam is now available for MacOS. Windows users has 1 less advantage over MacOS user.

And finally, HTC strikes back with 5 patent complaint against Apple. Get your popcorns ready. This is going to be an interesting show.

65Bits #168: Secret location #462 Posted on: May 13, 2010 at 4:15 pm Posted in: 65Bits,Podcasts

We are doing our recording at secret location #462. This week, the crew talk about the upcoming Google Editions, which is E-book on the web browser. Although most of the Tech65 crew aren’t avid book readers, we are pretty excited about the news. Especially the model of having E-books on a web browser, which essentially means that you can bring your E-books almost everywhere. Including the iPhone/iPad and Apple can’t do anything about it. Unlike Flash which Apple said will not be coming to iPhone and iPad. But Adobe did show off their Flash running smoothly on an Android device.

And speaking of tablets, the Apple iPad will be coming to Singapore in July. No details on the exact date, time and location yet. But keep following Tech65 and we will update you once we got the news.

65Bits #167: HP got a Palm Posted on: May 6, 2010 at 3:06 am Posted in: 65Bits,Podcasts

It’s a pretty short episode this week. The biggest story this week is HP buying Palm for $1.2b. That caught us as a surprise. We were expecting someone else. Nevertheless, its good to see someone coming out to save Palm. Microsoft decides to kill the Courier before it was even launched. What a sad news. We thought it might be a good competitor to iPad. Microsoft claims that Android infringes its patents and is demanding Android phone makers to pay a licensing fee. So far, we know HTC is paying Microsoft. No news about the rest of the Android phone makers yet. But you can be sure that Microsoft will be speaking to them shortly. Last but not least, the end of floppy disk has finally arrived. Sony decided to stop making the 3.5 inch floppy disk.

We will miss you, floppy disk.
